Morning Reflections

One Step at a Time...

Some gifts never lose their magic.

This morning, I stood on the pier watching birds fly toward me, and just like every other day, it filled my heart. No matter how many times it happens, it never gets old. I think I get that from my dad. He taught me to notice the simple things, the things that many people walk right past.

Pegleg came out to greet me, right on schedule. Clubbie showed up for peanuts, eager as ever. A black-crowned night heron stood proudly with a fish in its beak, enjoying a well-earned breakfast while sailboats drifted across the horizon and cargo ships waited in the distance.

As I watched the birds circle overhead and the ocean sparkle below, I found myself thinking about one of my dad’s favorite pieces of advice:

“One step at a time.”

Simple words, but they have carried me through so many seasons of life.

Today, on Father’s Day, I’m especially grateful for the lessons, strength, and steady guidance my dad has given me. The birds, the water, the boats, the sunshine, and the memories all felt connected somehow.

One step at a time.

That’s enough.

And today, that’s everything.

❤️ Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

Grateful.

Capturing beauty, sharing light.
