Morning Reflections

Mystery in the Morning Fog…

Some mornings arrive loud and colorful. Others arrive quietly, wrapped in mystery. Today, the Venice Pier disappeared into the fog. The lamps glowed softly above the walkway and the palm trees faded into silhouettes like watercolor brush strokes. I love mornings like this. The fog slows everything down and makes the world feel a little more magical.

Out in the water a surfer paddled into the unknown, disappearing into the mist with each wave rolling beneath him. There is something beautiful about that kind of courage, trusting the ocean even when you can’t see very far ahead.

Of course the birds still found me.

The pigeons came fluttering through the fog like tiny acrobats, landing on my hands and jumping on and off like it was their morning playground. Moments like that never get old. No matter the weather, they always show up.

And today I spotted a special visitor on the pier — a black-crowned night heron. I love their little punk-rock feather. He stood there so curious, looking around as if he was studying the fog just like the rest of us.

The waves were crashing loudly below the pier, but everything else felt peaceful and calm. It reminded me how beautiful life can be when we slow down enough to notice the little moments.

I held up my message as the pigeons flew around me:

“Always find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive.”

Some mornings the ocean gives you sunshine.

Some mornings it gives you mystery.

Both are gifts.
