Morning Reflections

To Slow Down…

This morning was one of those mornings that reminds me why I keep showing up.

The sky was painted in soft shades of gray, the ocean rolled gently below, and the pigeons were already lined up on the railing waiting for breakfast. Before long, they were flying toward me from every direction, their wings spread wide and their little faces full of excitement.

There’s no more beautiful feeling than having pigeons fly toward you. Watching their joy as they land on my hand and hop on and off me like a game of leapfrog always makes me smile. It’s such a simple moment, but one that fills my heart every single time.

My little message today read:

“To slow down is to see the beauty in details most often overlooked.”

I couldn’t help but think how true that is.

The night heron stood high atop the sign overlooking the entire scene, quietly watching everything below. Captain, the newest member of the pier family, made another appearance. I already look forward to seeing him each day. He fits right in.

And then there was Pegleg.

After not seeing him for a while, he showed back up today. Seeing him standing there waiting made me so happy. Some friendships are built one visit at a time, and his return felt like a gift.

This morning reminded me that beauty is everywhere when we slow down enough to notice it.

Grateful for pigeons, pelicans, old friends, new friends, and another beautiful day on the pier.

Capturing beauty, sharing light.
