Morning Reflections

Feathered Welcomes and a Skywatcher on the Pole

They used to wait for me at the end of the pier. But now? They meet me at the start.

It’s like they’ve memorized the sound of my footsteps—like they’ve decided this is our morning, too. I still walk to the end, of course, just to make sure everyone gets fed. But lately... they’re looking healthier, shinier, stronger. And they bring me so much joy. They make me laugh. Their little personalities shine brighter each day. I can stretch out my hand and—poof—they land like a living bouquet of feathers. Sometimes it looks like a stack of cheerleaders balancing one atop another. It’s silly and sacred all at once. Their joy is so pure, it catches in my chest. Domino, Honey Girl, and Clubby were there, as always. Steady. Familiar. Feathered bits of my heart. And then… Adonis. The majestic osprey perched high on the pole like a sentry of the sky. Still as stone, scanning for fish. He makes everything around him pause—even the wind seems to watch.

Birds seen today:

  • Domino — the original heartbeat
  • Honey Girl — with her signature shoulder landing
  • Clubby — courageous and one-footed
  • Adonis — silent, fierce, and magnificent

Today’s Gratitude:

  • For being met at the start.
  • For the laughter of wings stacked in welcome.
  • And for the stillness that descends when Adonis holds the sky.
A handwritten note held up against a cloudy pier view with ocean waves.
