Morning Reflections

First Light, First Words

The blog begins today, but the story began weeks ago—on a morning when trust had wings. This morning, I stood at the pier with peanuts (unsalted, of course) in my pocket and quiet in my heart. The wind was soft. The seagulls called like they always do, but it felt different—like a page being turned. Domino came early, as she often does. She landed hard—her usual entrance—announcing herself like a thump of confidence. Honey Girl followed soon after, perching on my shoulder the way she always does. Her little crooked foot gives her a unique strut, unmistakable in the crowd. I wish more people noticed. The way fishing line and human debris harm these delicate feet. The way a careless tangle becomes a lifelong limp. It makes me ache. And yet—they keep showing up. Resilient. Brave. Beautiful.

Birds seen today:

  • Domino — bold lander, early riser
  • Honey Girl — shoulder nuzzler with the crooked step
  • Clubby — one foot, all courage

Today’s Gratitude:

  • For the simple miracle of returning.
  • For how the birds remember. And for the stillness that waits for me when I show up.
