Morning Reflections

Human Perch and Winged Delight

This morning, I became a perch with a pulse. The birds didn’t just arrive—they came for me. Like laughter with feathers, they spilled from sky and railing and air itself, fluttering toward the one they trust to greet the day with open palms and peanuts in her pockets. Pegleg barked his hello first, his one foot tapping out a beat only he knows. Domino swooped in next, her landings still the boldest kind of love— a thump that says, “I remember you.” Honey Girl found her usual spot on my shoulder, her crooked foot cradling my clavicle like home. And Clubby, graceful in her balance, tucked close without hesitation. It’s the sweetest sort of funny—how excited they get. How they choose me. They don’t go to just anyone. They know.

Today’s Gratitude:

  • For the joy of being their chosen human.
  • For the laughter in every wingbeat. And for the sacred silliness of being a human perch.
