Morning Reflections:
Blue Shirt, Barking Seagull, and the Joy of Being Known
Such a beautiful morning. Pegleg the Seagull greeted me first—one foot, full spirit. He barked like a little dog and followed me down the pier, as if to say, “You're late." I don’t usually wear bright colors, but today I had on bright blue. I was taking photos when I saw the pigeons in the distance. They looked my way, heads tilting—uncertain, curious. Then suddenly, recognition! They flew to me all at once like joy in motion. It makes me so happy that they're so happy. It really feels like they pose for me sometimes.
Feeding them feels like the smallest gift in return for the light they bring. They deserve to be nourished, seen, celebrated.
Such a sweet way to greet the new month. July begins in gratitude, in movement, in laughter on wings.
Birds Seen Today
- Pegleg — barked, bold, and loyal
- The Pigeons — hesitant at first, then full-hearted in flight
Domino, Honey Girl, and Clubby
Domino—my first companion, the one who landed before I even knew I was being chosen—always makes her entrance known. Her landings are little thunderclaps of trust.
Honey Girl is never far behind, her crooked foot giving her a signature sway. She always lands on my shoulder, like it's her favorite perch in the whole wide world. There’s something so comforting about the way they arrive together, always in tandem, like breath and heartbeat.
And then there’s Clubby—she only has one foot, but carries herself like she’s never known limitation. Brave, balanced, beautiful.
They were all there this morning. My familiar trio. My feathered constants.
Today’s Gratitude:
- For being recognized by a flock. For blue shirts and bright beginnings.
- For the joy of being known—and welcomed.
