Morning Reflections

Be in the Expectancy of Sunshine…

Every morning on the Venice Pier reminds me that sunshine is more than the weather. Sometimes it’s a moment, a friend, or a quiet reminder that kindness matters.

The birds were soaring through the morning sky, making the whole pier feel alive. Watching them never gets old. Their freedom is beautiful, and every flap of their wings feels like a celebration of a brand new day.

Clubbie came out to see me this morning. She only has one foot after becoming tangled in discarded fishing line, but she doesn’t let that define her. She still greets each day with determination, resilience, and a spirit that inspires me. Every time I see her, I’m reminded why I spend time picking up trash along the pier. These birds deserve so much better. They shouldn’t have to navigate hooks, fishing line, and litter just to survive.

Pegleg, of course, followed me down the pier. He’s become quite particular about his peanuts. I used to give him peanuts in the shell, but now he’ll toss them back at me as if to say, “Could you open these first?” I can’t help but laugh. I guess he’s figured out that being spoiled isn’t such a bad thing.

They’ve become more than birds to me. They’re friends who remind me to slow down, notice the beauty around me, and care for the place we all share.

Today’s quote said it perfectly:

“Be in the expectancy of sunshine.”

When you expect sunshine, you begin to notice it everywhere, in the waves, the birds, acts of kindness, and grateful hearts.

I’m so thankful for another beautiful morning with my feathered family.

Capturing beauty, sharing light.
