Morning Reflections

A Rainy Birthday Morning Full of Wings…

There was something extra special about the pier this rainy Sunday morning. The sky was gray, the pier was glistening with rain, and somehow everything felt peaceful and beautiful. “Rain makes everything beautiful.”

Today is my dad’s birthday, which made this morning even more meaningful. I am so grateful to him for giving me my love of nature and animals. He has always cared for animals and fed the birds, and somewhere along the way, that beautiful part of him became a part of me too.

It almost felt like all of the birds came out this morning to wish him a Happy Birthday. The pigeons flew around me and lined the railing, completely embracing the rain. Some would lean over and lift one wing into the air, letting the raindrops wash through their feathers like they were taking their own little showers. It was the sweetest thing to watch.

The crow made sure I saw him. Honey Girl came for her peanuts, and of course Pegleg had to make an appearance to send his own little birthday greeting.

But this morning also brought me to a little pigeon who clearly wasn’t feeling well. I couldn’t leave him there, so I picked him up and later took him to Bruce in Palos Verdes, where he can be cared for and hopefully get strong again.

I named him Harbor. 🤍

The name feels perfect because sometimes we all need a safe harbor when the storms come.

As I looked at Harbor, I couldn’t help thinking about my dad. He has spent his life caring for animals, and I know that watching him taught me to notice the ones who need a little extra help.

What a beautiful gift to inherit.

Happy Birthday, Dad. Thank you for teaching me to love the birds, the animals, the ocean, the rain and all the little miracles in between.

I love you, Dad. And I am forever grateful.

Capturing beauty, sharing light.
