Morning Reflections:
Winged Greetings and a Ghost on the Pole
I look forward to this every single morning. It’s become a ritual, a rush of wingbeats and pure serotonin. Pegleg barked his hello as usual—like clockwork. Honey Girl arrived with her gentle crooked strut, and Clubby tucked in like courage wrapped in feathers. Domino was missing today… but she does that. Always appearing later like a surprise encore. The moment I stretch my arm, they land—layered joy in motion, like I’ve become a human perch built of trust and breakfast. And then there was someone new. High on the pole stood a black-crowned night heron—except he’s mostly white. Watching. Still. His presence felt ancient and calm. He needs a name. I think I will call him Caspian.
Birds Seen Today:
- Pegleg — barking cheerleader
- Honey Girl — sweet crooked elegance
- Clubby — one-footed joy
- Domino — absent, but always returning
- Caspian--the newcomer, perched like a thought above the sea
Today's Gratitude:
- For the flutter of recognition.
- For joy that stacks like feathers in flight.
- And for naming a new sentinel in the morning chorus
