Evening Reflections
When the Pier Holds the Light…
Tonight, the beach felt like it belonged only to the fog and me.
The sun was slipping away behind a soft gray veil, and the Venice Pier lights began to glow—stretching themselves across the wet sand like quiet prayers reflected back. Every step I took felt slower, more intentional, as if the ocean itself was reminding me there was no need to rush.
I love walking the beach when no one is around. There’s a kind of sacred spaciousness in it. No conversations to follow, no expectations to meet—just the rhythm of waves and the gentle hush of evening settling in.
As I walked back toward my car, something made me pause. Up on a sign nearby, a night heron stood perfectly still, looking down at me. Our eyes met for just a moment. It felt like a quiet acknowledgment—one presence recognizing another. No fear. No hurry. Just shared awareness.
Moments like this remind me how much beauty exists when we slow down enough to notice it. The fog. The reflections. The birds. The way the light lingers just a little longer than expected.
Tonight, I’m grateful for solitude, for unplanned encounters, and for the gentle reassurance that I’m never truly alone when I’m paying attention.
