Morning Reflections
When Joy Comes Flying Toward You…
Some mornings on the pier feel like a reunion. The ocean was calm today, surfers floating patiently on their boards waiting for the next wave, and the sky carried that soft gray glow that makes the water look endless.
And just like always, Pegleg found me first.
Out of all the sky and all the people on the pier, somehow he always spots me right away. There’s something so comforting about that moment. It feels like the morning officially begins when Pegleg arrives.
Then the wings start coming.
Birds flying toward me from every direction, landing on the railing, fluttering around my hands looking for peanuts. It’s the most beautiful feeling when they recognize you and come flying straight to you.
It’s an instant serotonin boost.
Honey Girl perched on my arm today, making it very clear she was not interested in sharing her peanuts with anyone else. Domino came when I called her, gliding in like she always does. And Ebony, relentless as ever, made sure to land right on top of my phone again.
But maybe that’s the way love is supposed to look.
When you really love something, you show up for it again and again.
Watching the birds fly toward me every morning reminds me of a quote I recently saw:
“Please never stop talking passionately about all the things you really love.”
And standing there on the pier surrounded by wings, waves, and familiar bird friends, I realized that’s exactly what these mornings are.
Just love in motion.
As I walked back to my car, a little squirrel popped up on a branch like he had been waiting the whole time just to say hello.
Nature always finds a way to remind you that you belong.
And honestly, it’s impossible to leave the pier feeling anything but happy.
Maybe if more people experienced mornings like this…
they’d be a lot nicer to pigeons.
Capturing beauty, sharing light.
