Morning Reflections

What the Pelicans Know…

This morning was beautiful. The pelicans were having a meetup just south of the pier. I wonder what they were discussing—maybe tide patterns, maybe breakfast, maybe just the joy of flying. After the meetup, they headed toward Malibu, gliding in formation like a quiet procession. Above it all, the hunter’s moon was shining bright, still lingering in the morning sky. Pegleg was up on the pole, balancing on his one foot like a sentinel. He came down when he saw me. The pigeons were as happy as ever. Domino arrived in full force, like she always does—bold, radiant, impossible to miss. I’m so happy to see her in the mornings again. Honey Girl came up from the back and landed on my shoulder. She always finds her way to me. I am her human. Deuce was there today too. She usually meets me by my car, but she figured out I’m on the pier now. Clubby balanced on top of my phone with her one foot, steady and sweet. I just love each one of them. They’re so full of personality, so full of heart. A seagull had a fishing line with a hook tangled around her foot. It broke my heart. I wish people wouldn’t leave trash or fishing line around. So many of them have injuries to their feet—injuries that could be prevented. They are all so resilient. I always try to pick up what I can when I’m down there. We have to look out for each other. The sunrise was heaven-like—rays shining through the clouds, soft and golden. Grateful for the light, the birds, the moon, and the reminder that love is in the details.

Morning Gratitude Thought:

Grateful for pelican meetup and their graceful flight toward Malibu, moonlight, Pegleg’s greeting, Domino’s boldness, Honey Girl’s loyalty, Deuce’s discovery, Clubby’s balance—and the seagull who reminded me why care matters.
