Morning Reflections

Venice Pier & Gentle Wings That Know My Name...

This morning at the marina felt like a soft love letter from God. The sky was impossibly clear — washed in calm blues, kissed with winter sunlight, and carried by gentle ocean air. And just like always, the birds arrived as if the day couldn’t properly begin until they said hello.

Pegleg led the parade, wings stretched wide in that familiar glide toward me. Clubby listened for her name and answered like she always does — steady, sure, and full of trust. Honey Girl showed up for her peanuts, her excitement as honest and sweet as the crunch between her tiny beak.

One of them landed close enough for me to notice something wrapped around its foot — string, tangled tight from a life lived too near human things. I reached down slowly, spoke softly, and with a careful touch, I got it off of one of their feet. It felt good to be able to do that for them. It always does. It changes their world in ways we’ll never fully see, but we can feel it in the release, the relief, the small freedom restored. And selfishly, in the quietest part of my heart, it feels good to be able to give that kind of help before the world wakes up.

The moment felt sacred. A reminder that kindness isn’t loud. It doesn’t need applause. Sometimes it just looks like kneeling down on a wooden pier at sunrise, gently untangling a life, one small strand at a time.

I celebrate the beauty that surrounds me, but even more — I celebrate the chance to care for the beauty that comes toward me. The ocean sparkled. The birds circled. My heart felt full.

Today was a lovely day. And it started with a good deed, before the day even began.

Capturing beauty, Sharing light.

Morning Gratitude Thought:

When the world is still waking up, God lets me witness the quietest miracles first. Sunshine, a soft wing, a tiny life trusting enough to land near me — and a chance to help, even in the smallest ways. Kindness feels like purpose. Gratitude feels like home.
