Afternoon Reflections
The Feathered Philosophers…
Today is National Pigeon Day, and I spent it with some of my favorite teachers.
Most people walk past pigeons without a second thought, but I wish they could see them the way that I do. They are intelligent, expressive, curious, and full of personality. They recognize faces, remember kindness, and somehow always know when peanuts are involved.
Domino came when I called her today, just like she always does. The excitement of seeing wings flying toward me never gets old. The railing filled with familiar faces, eager for their afternoon snack and happy to spend a few moments together above the ocean.
My quote today said:
“Pigeons are like small feathered philosophers, watching humanity with quiet curiosity.”
The more time I spend with them, the more true that feels.
Today also honors Cher Ami, the brave carrier pigeon who saved nearly 200 soldiers during World War I. More than a century later, pigeons continue to remind us that courage, intelligence, and loyalty can come in unexpected forms.
And as if the day wasn’t already perfect, Pegleg showed up! I guess he was on vacation. Seeing him again made me so happy.
A beautiful afternoon on the Venice Pier, surrounded by ocean breezes, colorful sails in the distance, and the little feathered philosophers who bring joy into my life every single day.
Capturing beauty, sharing light.
