Evening Reflections
Some Things Grow More Beautiful with Time…
Tonight’s sunset was especially meaningful. Today is my mom and dad’s 55th wedding anniversary, and I wanted to celebrate them in the place that holds so many of the simple things they taught me to love.
The ocean. The crashing waves. The birds. The sunset. Nature. Kindness.
It’s funny because the birds normally aren’t out in such numbers at this time of day, but tonight they came. Wings were suddenly everywhere, almost as though they knew we were celebrating something special.
And in a way, they have my parents to thank too.
My love for birds and nature began with them. They taught me to notice the simple things, to appreciate what’s around me, and most importantly, to always be kind. Those gifts have shaped so much of who I am and how I see the world today.
Angel was there. Clubbie came to say hello. And, of course, Pegleg had to make an appearance. I’m pretty sure he was saying, “Happy Anniversary!”
The birds flew around the pier in the beautiful evening light, and I caught the most incredible seagull in flight against the sunset. As the sun disappeared, a surfer caught one of the final waves of the evening.
And apparently nature wasn’t finished celebrating yet.
As I walked back, the moon made its grand entrance through the clouds, almost as if it were saying, “Wait…here’s one more beautiful thing for your anniversary.”
My message tonight felt especially fitting:
“The most beautiful sunsets remind us: some things only grow more beautiful with time.”
Fifty-five years. A lifetime of memories, lessons, love, and all the little things that become the biggest things when you look back.
Mom and Dad, thank you for teaching me to see beauty in this world. Thank you for the birds, the ocean, the sunsets, the simple things, and the kindness you taught me to carry with me.
Happy 55th Anniversary. I love you both so much. Here’s to many more beautiful years ahead.
