Morning Reflections
Seconds to Save a Life…
This morning felt like stepping back into a favorite memory. The sun shimmered across the water, the waves rolled in softly beneath the pier, and Domino came flying toward me the moment I called her name. Honey Girl perched on my arm like she never left. Some mornings just wrap around your heart a little tighter than others.
But today also carried an important reminder.
I spotted a pigeon tangled tightly in string. At first he was frightened, trying to pull away, and every movement made it tighter around his feet. It took nearly half an hour to carefully untangle him, little by little. When I finally got the string off, I could see how close he was to losing toes… or worse.
If you really start paying attention to pigeons, you’ll notice how many are missing toes or entire feet from string, fishing line, and trash left behind. Clubbie lives with it. Pegleg lives with it. So many birds carry lifelong pain from something humans dropped without a second thought.
And the truth is, it only takes seconds to pick something up off the ground.
Seconds for us… but it can save a life, a foot, or years of suffering for them.
The beautiful part is that birds remember kindness. They remember when someone helped instead of hurt. You can feel that trust when they fly toward you.
This morning reminded me that maybe being a good human is extraordinary after all.
Capturing beauty, sharing light.
