Morning Reflections
Lined Up for Joy…
This morning felt like a gentle reminder that happiness can be simple. The sky opened in soft gold, the ocean was calm, and the pier felt like it was waiting to welcome the day. Before I even reached the rail, I could see wings moving in every direction. My little morning community was already awake.
Pegleg was first to greet me, like always. There’s something so comforting about familiar rhythms, the way certain souls show up again and again. One by one, the birds lined up along the rail, watching, waiting, excited. Their joy is so honest. They don’t hide it. They don’t overthink it. They just celebrate the moment.
Standing there, surrounded by fluttering wings and soft morning light, I felt the message I was holding take on deeper meaning:
“Breathe it in, you’re alive, that’s the miracle.”
Sometimes that’s all we need to remember. The air, the sun, the sound of the waves, the tiny feet tapping the railing, the laughter that rises without effort.
The birds bring me so much joy because they remind me how to be present. They don’t worry about tomorrow’s tide. They just meet the morning with open wings.
And today, I felt that same openness in my own heart. I realized how grateful I am for this ritual, for the simple act of showing up, and for all the life that meets me when I do.
The Venice Pier felt like a living song this morning, and every flutter was a note in it.
I walked away smiling, feeling lighter, carrying that quiet truth with me: joy is always waiting when we pause long enough to notice it.
Capturing beauty, sharing light.

Morning Gratitude Thought:
This morning, I watched the birds line up on the rail like they were waiting for joy to begin. Pegleg was first to greet me, and suddenly the whole pier felt alive with happiness. Sometimes the miracle is simply this: breathing in the morning air, feeling the sun on your face, and realizing you’re surrounded by life that wants to celebrate with you. Today I’m grateful for small moments that feel big in the heart.
