Morning Reflections:
A Patriotic Pause and a Bird Named Henry
Happy 4th of July! The pier felt quieter this morning, like even the birds knew it was a holiday. Maybe they were sleeping in, savoring the lull. Pegleg greeted me with his usual bark—steadfast and timely. And there was a new face today: a seagull I’ve named Henry. He made quite the entrance, swooping in boldly and trying to hoard all the food. He’ll learn the rules of the flock soon enough. Clubby was there, calm and centered, as always. Domino and Honey Girl took the morning off—probably resting their wings or celebrating elsewhere. I’ll likely see them later, but if not, I’ll go back. They won’t be forgotten. They never are. And high above it all, overlooking the marina like a sentinel of summer, sat Adonis. Regal. Watchful. A pause in the sky.
Birds Seen Today:
- Pegleg — holiday faithful with his signature bark
- Henry — the bold newcomer (currently in snack hoarding school)
- Clubby — present, balanced, and quietly brave
- Adonis — perched in majesty, overseeing the festivities from above
Today’s Gratitude:
- For quiet mornings on days full of noise.
- For familiar wings and new arrivals.
- For the simple luck of calling this beautiful place home.
