Morning Reflections

Serotonin and Feathers…

Every day gets more exciting on the pier. The birds are just so happy—jumping on and off of me with such joy that all I can do is smile. It’s like an instant serotonin boost, all for free. All it requires is participation… and some peanuts. They love birdseed, but if you bring unsalted peanuts? That takes it to a whole other level. It’s like an adrenaline rush for them, and it’s hilarious to watch. Each one has such a cute personality—just like each one of us. Honey Girl insists on being on my shoulder. I try to put her down, but she jumps right back up. I am her human. Pegleg is always there to greet me, steady and loyal. Clubby balances on my phone with her one foot, radiant and brave. And now that Domino is back in the mornings, she comes in full force—like she’s saying, Remember, I was the first one. It’s hard to believe it’s been nine months since the pigeon thing began. I can’t imagine my life without them in it. And this morning, as I looked out toward the beach, I saw dogs running—so happy, so free. It was beautiful. Isn’t that why we’re here? To feel joy, to share it, to notice it in others. Everyone needs more of this in their life—especially today. Just a boost of serotonin makes all the difference. Love and joy change things.

Morning Gratitude Thought:

Grateful for joyful birds, unsalted peanuts, Honey Girl’s loyalty, Pegleg’s greeting, Clubby’s balance, Domino’s bold return—and the dogs running free on the beach. Grateful for the reminder that joy is why we’re here.
