Morning Reflections

Pegleg’s Bark and the Joy of Being a Perch

This morning, Pegleg greeted me with his familiar bark, like he was calling, “I’m here!” His seagull companion followed close behind, the two of them flapping in like old friends keeping their promise. Domino was there, announcing herself in that thump-hard way only she can. Honey Girl landed gracefully—always on my shoulder—her crooked foot giving her that unmistakable lean. Clubby fluttered in too, balancing bravely, the tiniest bold soul. They know my schedule. Or maybe I’ve learned theirs. Either way—we meet in the middle, at the edge of the pier. I look forward to these mornings more than I can say. The joy in their faces, their little rush to land on me... they really do feel like feathered bundles of joy stacked on a very lucky human perch.

Birds Seen Today:

Pegleg — barking and bold, first to arrive

Domino — no one lands louder

Honey Girl — shoulder sweet with her signature sway

Clubby — balancing beauty, one foot, full heart

Today’s Gratitude:

  • For barked greetings and loyal wings.
  • For becoming someone’s perch.
  • For the way joy lands without hesitation.
