Morning Reflections
Where the Egrets Tremble
There’s a quiet magic that unfolds in the early hours along the Venice canals. Before the buzz of the city takes hold, the water is still, the light is gentle, and the egrets are already hard at work. Their elegant white forms stalk the shallows, so focused that their slender feet tremble with anticipation—tiny earthquakes of intent beneath feathers and grace. This morning, the pier was closed, but the day still offered its familiar cast. In the distance, Adonis stood watch, a sentinel in soft silhouette. And closer to the parking lot, the pigeons greeted me like old friends—some fluttering down in welcome, others nodding from their chosen posts. Deus was there too, positioned like a lookout not far from my car. They always seem to know where I’ll be. Each of these beings has staked a place in my routine, and I in theirs. It's a daily ritual that nourishes something quiet inside me. Not just connection to nature, but continuity—a kind of grounding rhythm that begins before the noise, before the obligations.
I walk with gratitude, because every morning the canal reminds me: the world is still turning, and there's grace to be found in the turning.
Morning Gratitude Thought
This morning I’m thankful for the small ceremonies of everyday life—the way nature offers familiarity without expectation, the way birds remember, and the quiet moments that ask nothing from me except to notice. That noticing brings me back to myself.
